A beautifully restored period double bay fronted detached house standing in remarkably private gardens about two miles from Plymouth City Centre.
The property, in its original section, is one of the oldest buildings in the area, south facing, full of character and renovated with great care to enhance the original features while also incorporating modern facilities. Once standing alone surrounded by its own land beyond the Plymouth city boundary in the village of Compton, the property is now on the borders of the favoured areas of Hartley, Mannamead and Higher Compton. "Village" facilities still serve the property well, with a highly respected primary school, general stores, bakery, pharmacists, garage, church and pub all within a few moments' walk. A bus route conveniently passes the property with a quick and regular service to the city centre which is only two miles away.
Plymouth's vibrant waterfront and marina areas, historic Barbican and Hoe, are all within about 2.5 miles. The city centre includes the Drake Circus shopping mall and the University, while to the north the Derriford area includes a thriving Science Park, and regional hospital.
Compton Lodge is one of those unique “secret properties” that are exciting to discover. Not only is the house a beautiful restoration of an historic property, but also the grounds are both private and sizable, viewed directly from principal rooms and complementing the building in every way. There is also more scope, and real versatility in the house layout, subject to any necessary consents being obtained. It will appeal to those looking for something special over a wide geographical area, as indeed was the case when the current owners purchased over twenty years ago.
