SITUATION AND DESCRIPTION
Bishops Court, built in 2006, is a small housing development in the centre of the riverside village of Newton Ferrers designed for active independent living for people aged 55 and over. There is additional support and assistance if needed (cost applies) for residents with less independence, which is provided by a team of professional staff provided by the Guinness Trust provide from 7am until 10 pm every day.
There is a community lounge which hosts social gatherings for residents and some local community events (currently closed to comply with Covid regulations). A guest suite can be hired for anyone expecting visitors in need of overnight accommodation. There is also a communal laundry room.
No 19 benefits from a level access from the street and is dominated by the captivating southerly views over the tidal waters of the Yealm Estuary and across the Noss Mayo beyond, with a backcloth of partly wooded hillsides leading to the coast. Non-slip walkways lead from the drive area, which in turn leads from the central area of the village with its Coop store, Post Office/community shop/café, and butcher's shop. There is also a pharmacy only about 100 yards away, adjacent to The Dolphin pub, Yacht Club, and foreshore area and slipway. The village also includes a large modern WI Hall, thriving primary school, and a parish church.
The communal gardens of Bishops Court are landscaped and provide sitting areas for those wanting to enjoy a peaceful location with wonderful river views.
