About this property
A characterful detached house standing in established secluded gardens approaching half an acre, enjoying long views over open country, with the Yealm Estuary and Dartmoor on the horizon.
Little Orchard originated as a bungalow, thought to date from the 1930s, which has been significantly updated and extended, with great sympathy, retaining much of the building's original character. This is now an immensely individual house providing great interest, which takes advantage of the long aspect over the extensive garden and beyond to open country, with the Yealm Estuary and Dartmoor on the horizon.
Approached from the road by twin metal gates to a sizeable driveway with parking and turning for many vehicles, Little Orchard is remarkably deceptive. The driveway continues to the former garage which lies beneath the house which has been converted to provide potential work and gym space.
The accommodation is dominated by the captivating aspect. An oak staircase leads up to the first floor from the reception/dining hall. Twin doors open out to the extensive triple living space, over 40ft in total length, which leads in turn to the large balcony/rear terrace which overlooks the garden. There is a fabulous recently fitted kitchen with Travertine floor strategically well set to give access to the garden and terrace. A principal bedroom and family bathroom also lies on this level, which could easily form a separate suite,- there are three further double bedrooms and bathroom on the first floor.
The principal garden, unseen from the front of the house, is a remarkable area, set up for outside entertaining, running down to the attractive summerhouse. The garden extends still further, widening out, and adjoining the extensive woodland beyond.
Set in the scattered residential area known as Hollacombe, on the northern periphery of Wembury, this is a location that offers a "best of both worlds" being essentially rural yet within easy reach of the facilities in this very well equipped village and yet only about 3 miles from the amenities of the Plymouth suburb of Plymstock, and 6 miles from the City Centre and Waterfront.
Wembury is a large coastal village including a primary school, pub, health centre, and a Post Office/general store. The countryside surrounding the village forms an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the coastline is largely owned by the National Trust, with a well-known beach, Marine Centre and landmark church. A bus route passes the property.
The views from the property are exceptional and absorbing, extending over many miles of rolling South Hams countryside, with the heights of Dartmoor National Park beyond.
Directions
From Plymstock, on the A379 at Elburton Hotel, take the road signposted to Wembury. Pass through the shops of Elburton Village and continue to the traffic lights with Wembury Road. Turn left and continue past the filling station to pass out of the built up area. Upon reaching the outskirts of Wembury at Hollacombe pass a line of properties on the left and the property will be found along this road just after a brow, and well before reaching Traine Road on the right.
