As the evenings draw in and the air takes on that familiar crisp chill, South Devon is transformed into a playground of pumpkins, ghosts, and ghoulish delights. October half term is the perfect excuse to wrap up warm, head out with family and friends, and enjoy the abundance of Halloween events in Devon. From enchanted trails and pumpkin patches in South Devon to after-dark adventures and fright-filled discos, there’s something spine-tingling for everyone. Whether you prefer a gentle stroll through autumnal gardens or a night of adrenaline-pumping thrills, this season’s line-up is not to be missed.
Pennywell Farm Pumpkin Festival, Buckfastleigh – until the 2nd November
Known for it’s delightful farm-yard animals, Pennywell Farm, located on the fringes of Buckfastleigh, also puts on an annual pumpkin festival in Devon, and promises to be bigger and better than ever before! Included in your ticket, you’ll get access to the pumpkin patch; filled with squashes and gourds, big and small, to take home with you, the Pumpkin Trail where you’ll explore the farm and receive a prize upon completion, a Marshmallow Toasting Experience, Live Music and family games.
Pennywell Farm is open 7 days a week from 9am – 4pm, and also host Pumpkin Nights events where you can sit the attraction after dark from 5:30pm – 9pm!
Pumpkin Fest at Strawberry Fields, Lifton – Until 31st October
Known for their ‘Pick your own’ experiences, Strawberry Fields is a farm shop and restaurant located on the Devon-Cornwall boarder in Lifton. This family-run farm, named after it’s roots as a strawberry farm, offer a wealth of seasonal events, including an annual Pumpkin Fest on selected days in October. This year, alongside their pumpkin patch, visitors can enjoy live music, magic and circus shows, a maize maze, face painting and more. Food and drink is available on site, including marshmallow toasting and their Pumpkin Arms bar, meaning you can enjoy a full family day out in Devon this Autumn.
Additionally, they’re hosting a Pumpkin Nights event on the 17th, 18th, 24th and 25th October, offering similar entertainment as the daytime, but with a frighteningly fantastic fire show display!
Day time tickets are priced from £4.95 per person and evening tickets are from £3.95 per person.
Halloween at Babbacombe Model Village, Torquay – 24th October – 31st October
Located in Torquay, Babbacombe Model Village will be hosting their annual Halloween event where the attraction remains open after dark and spooky illuminations light up the park, alongside ghosts, ghouls and other spooky characters scare the miniature residents.
Babbacombe Model Village is open for it’s Halloween event from the 24th October to the 31st from 10am – 7:30pm. Be sure to visit during daylight hours to make the most of the village scenes and then either return for free in the evening, or visit an hour before getting dark.
Halloween at Kents Cavern, Torquay – 24th October – 1st November
Over the October Half Term Holidays, Kents Cavern, one of the most important Stone Age sites in Europe, is hosting a number of ‘fang’-tastic events. From the 24th October, they’ll be hosting their Halloween Cave Cinema event where they’ll showcase a variety of Halloween-themed films; from child-friendly showcases like Hocus Pocus to 18+ screenings like The Descent. And with a different film on each day, there’s something for everyone.
Additionally, on Halloween night, the caves will play host to a silent disco, from 5pm – 6:30pm for children and families, and then again at 7:30pm – 10pm for over 18s. This one-of-a-kind event might possibly be the biggest underground disco to ever take place and perhaps one of the most atmospheric Halloween attractions in South Devon!
Night of the Dead at Dartmoor Zoo, Sparkwell – 24th & 25th October
How do you think you’d fare during a Zombie Apocalypse? Well, Dartmoor Zoo are giving you a chance to experience it (without all the biting, of course!) This 18+ event will see you embarking on an immersive, after-dark survival experience as you navigate the zombie-riddled park back to base camp. It’s the perfect event for thrill-seekers looking for Halloween activities in South Devon with a twist.

Magic and Myths Trail & Spooky Crafts at Saltram House, Plympton – 25th October – 1st November
Perched overlooking the River Plym, Saltram House is a historic Georgian country home, located in Plympton and owned by the National Trust. Set within a working 18th-century estate with sprawling gardens, farmland, salt marshes and sitting upon the estuary, one might forget how close the city of Plymouth lies.
Over the October Half Term Holidays, Saltram House will be hosting a Magic and Myths Trail from the 25th and from the 27th they’ll be offering some spooky craft activities for children, both are included in the admission price.
Pumpkin Trail at Canonteign Falls, Lower Ashton – 25th October – 2nd November
If you’re looking to combine Halloween fun with some outdoor activities this half term, there’s simply no better place than Canonteign Falls. Home to the South West’s highest waterfall, ancient woodlands and lakes, this majestic 90-acre estate is all about nature and adventure. Plus, over the half term holidays, they’ll be hosting their Pumpkin Trail with prizes to be win, plus a range of other competitions – including fancy dress, making it the perfect activity for kids, young and old!
Canonteign Falls’ Pumpkin Trail runs from Saturday 25th October to Sunday 2nd November, and is open from 10am – 4pm.
Abbey After Dark at Torre Abbey, Torquay – 29th October – 1st November
Situated in Torquay, Torre Abbey will be opening their gates after dark for a spine-tingling, family-friendly Halloween adventure. Torre Abbey is an ancient scheduled monument dating back to 1196 with 18 acres of garden and parkland and is noted as being the best-preserved medieval abbey in Devon and Cornwall. Being such a relic, we’re certain that the Abbey has some spooky stories to tell, some people even claim it to be haunted!
As night falls, visitors can explore the historic Abbey gardens with interactive scares, illuminations and special effects. Plus, fancy dress is not only allowed but encouraged so why not don your finest Halloween costume and enjoy your evening in the shadows of the Abbey.
Warehouse of the Wicked, The Old Warehouse, Kingsbridge – 31st October
On Halloween night, venture down to The Old Warehouse in Kingsbridge… if you dare! KDJ collective, a local collection of DJ’s, will be taking over the venue for a night of ghoulishly good tunes and dancing with all proceeds going to the UNICEF Children in Gaza Appeal.
Tickets are just £5 and can be bought in advance on The Old Warehouse’s website. Some may be available on the door, but pre-booking is advised to avoid disappointment.
