Once again, Saltram Rotary Club's Classic Car Show at the Lyneham Estate, just north of Yealmpton, on Sunday 7th September, raised significant funds for Devon Air Ambulance.

With the Club’s Events Committee, chaired by Marchand Petit’s Consultant, Roger Punch, a team of members, partners, and local friends, in all about fifty volunteers, worked tireless to set the stage in the extraordinarily beautiful grounds of a little-known Grade I listed mansion.

From 8.30 in the morning, an extraordinary selection of special vehicles arrived from all over the region, dating from the 1920s to the 1990s. Classic Rolls Royce, Buick, Healey, Sunbeam, MG, Triumph, Jaguar, Daimler, Lotus, Ferrari, Porsche, and Mini, some built for leisure, some for competition, lined up for the visitors to inspect.

Hospitality came from many local suppliers, and stalls included those from Chestnut Appeal, Shekinah, Gables Dogs and Cats Home, and Devon Air Ambulance.

Entertainment was provided by Band Friday, Totnes Jazz, and South Hams Singers. A short period of rain in the morning held things back for a while, but spectators continued to arrive in volume well into the afternoon. The annual Charles Stanley Cup was awarded to Nigel and Ann Jarrett, from Teignmouth, with their outstanding 1937 Jowett 10 that they had fastidiously restored over the last 6 years.

The backdrop of the historic mansion, its serene gardens, and the lake provided opportunities to photograph these amazing and cherished machines in perfect surroundings.

Organiser Roger Punch summed up the day: “We are indebted once again to the generosity of the Lyneham Estate for preparing the site and allowing us to use their grounds. This is always a special day towards the end of the local show season, bringing nostalgia, automotive history, and local entertainment together in the best of settings, while raising significant sums for the much-needed charity of Devon Air Ambulance."
