Start Point to Mattiscombe Sands
4.5km | 1-1.5 Hours | Circular
Perfect for families, this short yet adventurous walk traces a dragon’s tail of spiny crags, with sweeping views over Start Bay as you descend to the lighthouse at Start Point. You then follow rocky coastal heath to a secluded, foot-access-only sandy beach, perfect for a picnic on a fine day. The path is narrow, rocky, and exposed in places, so it’s best avoided in bad weather. In spring, pink-headed thrift lights up the cliffs and cirl buntings call from the bushes.
