About this property

A detached stone-built former school house, dating from 1852 with a wealth of period features throughout and renovated in 2011 to a high standard, located in the centre of the well-equipped village of Yealmpton. Set in an elevated position with an open aspect providing beautiful far reaching views. Double Garage. Ample Parking.

The house lies within Yealmpton's Conservation Area, set off a small lane and with no passing traffic, yet within two minutes' walk of the many amenities in the village centre. Expansive views from the house extend over the woodland of the Yealm Valley, and there are many miles of walks from the doorstep, almost entirely on footpaths.

Mentioned in Pevsner's The Buildings of England - Devon, as ".School and Schoolhouse, 1852, also by Butterfield". This follows a very full description of the nearby St. Bartholomew's Church by the renowned architect William Butterfield.

Stone-built and including cut stone framed windows, the house retains the architectural features of the original building whilst having been refurbished in recent years incorporating modern facilities.

Yealmpton includes a large health centre with dispensary, Post Office, general stores, café, hairdressers, optician, two pubs, garage/filling station, regular bus route, primary school, two churches, and the well-respected Ben's Farm Shop. A remarkable network of footpaths lie around the village in the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and particularly the River Yealm Valley. From here there is also quick access to the A38 Devon Expressway, making this location ideal for those needing good access to all parts of the region. Mothecombe, Wembury and many other superb South Hams beaches are within 15/20 minutes' drive. Plymouth's City Centre and Waterfront are about 7 miles distant while the yachtsmen's haven of Newton Ferrers and Noss Mayo is only 3.5 miles away.

Directions
From the centre of Yealmpton on the A379 at the crossroads by the zebra crossing turn down the hill in the Newton Ferrers direction and immediately turn right into Church Lane. Proceed towards the church and the entrance drive to The Retreat will be found in a short distance on the right.

Mileage
Plymouth City Centre & Waterfront 7 miles; A38 4 miles; Newton Ferrers 3.5 miles; Mothecombe Beach 4 miles (distances approximate).
