Energy Price Cap Rising Again? Discover Why New Build Homes Keep Bills in Check hero
Martin Lewis has this week flagged the likelihood of another rise to the energy price cap in January. It's the kind of headline that can feel unsettling, but there's a great deal within your control, whatever the cap ends up doing.

We asked Kandi, our New Homes Manager, for her take on rising energy bills and the wonderful new homes being sold that keep them low.

"Try not to let the headlines get on top of you," says Kandi. "A few simple, practical steps go a long way: before the cold sets in, draught-proof doors and windows, and get your boiler serviced now rather than waiting for the first cold snap. It's also worth checking your loft insulation hasn't shifted or thinned over the years, and bleeding a radiator that's cold at the top is a two-minute job that can make a real difference to how hard your system has to work. None of it is complicated, and it all helps. But the biggest difference, in my experience, is made long before any of that - by how a home was built in the first place. I speak to buyers all the time who tell me their old home's bills crept up every winter no matter what they did, simply because of the walls and windows they were working with. That's something worth bearing in mind if a move is ever on the cards."

It's a gentle point, but a reassuring one. Older properties, however characterful, sometimes carry hidden running costs: solid walls, single glazing, ageing heating systems, that no amount of draught excluder can fully solve.

A new build simply doesn't carry that worry in the same way.

Higher levels of insulation, modern glazing and efficient heating are specified from the outset at our developments, rather than retrofitted later. The result is lower running costs without the need for ongoing upgrades.

This approach is reflected across all our developments, from Collaton Park in Newton Ferrers and Roundham Mews in Paignton to Wakeham Farm, South Milton and Green Park, Chillington. Each combines comfort and efficiency with a strong sense of place.
