Set in the rolling South Devon countryside on the edge of Ledstone village, the Pound House enjoys wonderful views and is a haven for wildlife.
This was the childhood home of William 'Bill' Stone who became famous as the last surviving British naval man of WW1, who went on to serve in WW2. The property was formerly used to pound the apples for cider using a donkey to turn a mill stone in what is now the garage/workshop. The entrance porch opens to a wonderful kitchen/breakfast room which is the heart of this home, with vaulted ceilings, exposed roof timbers and solid fuel Esse range cooker. An open walkway leads to a beautifully lit living/dining room with French doors to a Juliet balcony enjoying views to open farmland and side door to the garden. The sitting room has triple aspect windows and fireplace with fitted wood burner. An inner hall has stairs to the lower ground floor and access to a shower room and bedroom 1. A charming double bedroom with sliding glass doors to a spacious en-suite wet room, which was formerly bed 3 and could be reinstated as such. Downstairs there is a further bedroom with en-suite bathroom and door to the garage/workshop having French doors to the rear courtyard. There is potential to convert this to a further bedroom. The rear courtyard has a utility room and wood store to one side and is tarmacked to provide ample parking with further parking alongside the porch. Off the dining room is a decked area with low curving stone wall that leads to a private stone paved terrace with pergola and established grapevine and steps down to the lawned garden. Across the road is a further allotment with 2 greenhouses.
Ledstone is a peaceful rural hamlet, well away from main road traffic, yet within 2 miles of Kingsbridge town centre and its amenities. The estuaries, cliffs and beaches of the South Hams coastline are within easy driving distance, as are renowned golf courses at Dartmouth, Bigbury and Thurlestone. Totnes, with a mainline railway station offering a frequent direct service to London is 12 miles away, and the city of Plymouth just 21 miles to the west.
